A good way to get over the winter hump is to start flowers and vegetables from seed indoors for later transplant. The biggest advantage is a much wider variety of plants and cultivars are available from seed than from ready to buy transplants.

"Planting time for vegetable seeds started indoors depends on when the seedling needs to be transplanted in the garden," said Maurice Ogutu. Inspect the plants for damping off disease and remove infected plants and drench the media with recommended fungicides.
