Drought
We use pine straw mulch here in Ga mostly...however, colored hardwood mulch seems to be making a play. Anyway, just trying to keep the plants deep watered to encourage root establishment without over watering.

Straw or Hay
Baled straw or hay happens to be a fantastic organic material to use as a mulch which then becomes lunch for the earthworms and soil microbes. The problem with straw or hay is that for most folks it does not look very good on a flower bed, or under trees or shrubs.

Protect Newly Seeded Lawn
Grassfast lies lightly over the seeded area and traps heat and moisture to speed and increase grass seed germination. While it retains warmth and moisture, it vents excess heat, which also increases and speeds seed germination.

Those gorgeous leaves of red, gold and brown are mulched into my lawn with a mulching mower, shredded with a leaf vac and layered upon the garden beds, heaped into the compost bin and bagged up and stored away for use during the growing season.

Caring For Carrots
Carrots need 2 to 4 inches of organic mulch as soon as the plants are big enough, 4 or 5 inches tall. As this mulch layer decomposes over the season it contributes valuable organic matter to the soil.

How To Attract And Keep Spiders
It is very important in a well balanced ecosystem to have a healthy population of all kinds of spiders. Gardens or plantings that have plants close together with their leaves just touching make an excellent habitat for spiders.
