Gypsy Moth Status in Northeastern Illinois
Effective April 12, 2007, three additional northern Illinois counties have been placed under quarantine to control the spread of gypsy moth. Under the quarantine, all nursery and lumber products must be inspected or certified before they can be transported out of the four counties.

When To Test?
After saying that, there are certain special circumstances where a proper soil test is a good idea. You could have a serious drainage problem or be planning on building a water garden.

Use In Landscape
The pendulous types add a sculptural element to the yard, especially obvious in the winter. However, since the wooly adelgid pest has infested these lovely trees in forests and residential yards throughout the East, they are no longer desirable as landscape plantings in that area.

Using Rosemary In The Yard
Erect varieties serve as dense hedges or container plants for patios and along sunny walls. What’s more, the small but numerous flowers attract honeybees and other beneficial insects to the yard.
