Control Slugs Using Insecticides
There are a number of products in local garden centers that use iron phosphate as the active ingredient. Iron phosphate, when ingested by a slug, causes the slug to immediately stop eating and then in a few days it dies.
Iron Phosphate for Slugs
The active ingredient in the products listed below is iron phosphate which is an organic compound that is found naturally in the soil. If the iron phosphate bait is not consumed by a slug, the material breaks down becoming fertilizer for your soil.
Sluggo®
Now you can kill slimy slugs and snails that are eating your plants without fear of poisoning your pets or endangering your children! The biggest advantage to SLUGGO® is that it provides an effective alternative to traditional snail and slug baits.
Control Slugs Using No Insecticides
Because slugs and snails feed only at night and hide in moist, dark places during the day it is hard to see them unless you know where to look. If you go out about 3 hours after dusk with a flashlight, you can often see their slimy trails which lead to the pests themselves.
Solving Mulching Problems
While mulching generally benefits soil and plants, there are a few problems associated with mulching. Slugs and snails are best controlled by setting out slug traps 6 72 400A baited with beer or yeast early in the season.
