Water Absorbing Polymers In Containers
However, one of the drawbacks of a container garden is that it needs watering more often than does the soil in garden beds. While it is optional, we advise yardeners to include a water absorbing polymer gel with the potting mix when setting up a container garden.

Most backyard gardens are part of the larger ecosystem surrounding them, but the water garden is an entirely self-contained miniature ecosystem. The water gardener is a true ecogardener, for no other form of gardening incorporates as many ecological principles.

Think About Polymer Gels
While it is optional, we advise yardeners to consider including a water-absorbing polymer gel with the potting mix when transplanting a houseplant. For a plant already in a soil mix, you can add these valuable materials in the form of spikes that are inserted into the soil mix.

Maintaining a Water Supply
Keep water clean: Murky or dirty water is unhealthy for birds. Keep birdbaths filled: Hot, dry summer weather quickly evaporates water from shallow pans and baths just when birds need water most.
