Using Maple In Landscape
Place one on the south or southwest corner of the house at least 30 to 40 feet away from the house, and you will eventually have a wonderful shade tree cooling your home in the summer, and after the leaves drop, allowing the sun through to warm your house in the winter.
Using Japanese Maple
Underplant small Japanese Maples in shrub borders or garden beds with a groundcover which will serve as a living mulch. Low growing junipers also look quite special as an accent to the lacey Japanese Maple foliage.
Using Poplar In Landscape
Because poplars grow rapidly they are useful as screens for views and wind protection or shade. If possible choose male trees to avoid marring the landscape with the pods of fluffy, cottony stuff that accompanies the seeds that are dispersed in the wind.
Using Bailey Acacia
When working them into your garden plan, remember that they only live 20 to 30 years. To make them last longer indoors, slit the cut ends and bruise the adjacent bark to allow the branches to absorb more water.
Using Bald Cypress
Because they like boggy soil they are excellent near ponds, in low or floodplain areas or near water features on property. Because of their open, airy foliage these trees cannot be counted upon to cast much shade.
