Avoiding Feeding Problems
To derive the most fun from feeders, you will want to be able to watch birds as they visit. Locate bird feeders and birdbaths out in the open so the birds are at least 3 feet from the nearest cover that could hide a cat.

The first part of safe ladder usage is to select only good quality, heavy duty ladders. Place the ladder so the distance between the wall and the foot of the ladder is about equal to 1/4 the length of the ladder.

Many gardeners also enjoy feeding birds - but not necessarily feeding the local squirrels. To deter squirrels, try to situate your feeders so squirrels can't jump onto them from above. Squirrels that manage to climb your feeder pole can go inside the duct pipe but are stopped when they meet the bottom of the feeder.
