Wood Chips
Perhaps the most common mulch used by yardeners around landscape plants and beds is wood chips; usually purchased from the local garden center or home center. Wood chips are still organic matter and if you only use wood chips, the soil health will improve over the years, but probably at half the rate of chopped leaves or peat moss.

Preparing To Sod the Lawn
If the soil has sufficient organic matter and air in it, it will support a good population of earthworms and microbes. Tilling the turf into the soil: An alternative to stripping off the old turfgrass sod is tilling it into the soil with a large rented self-propelled or tractor drawn tiller that will loosen the soil to a depth of at least 6 inches..

Effects of Cold January Temperatures on Landscape Plants
For the past ten years or so, our winters have been characterized by relatively mild temperatures, or at least by a lack of extreme cold. Because of the extreme cold, many in the Green Industry have been asking about the impact such temperatures have had on plant materials in the landscape.

While some landscape contractors produce their own wood mulches by grinding branch prunings, dead trees and other wood wastes, many obtain these materials from other sources including sawmills and pulping operations.

Benefit to Trees
Irrigation of trees should be a component of a good Plant Health Care plan and should be considered when developing a strategy for the care and maintenance of trees growing in any landscape.
