Talk about Perennials in our Message Board!
Petunias as perennials?
Doesn't take much of a little petunia plant to make a big one. They didn't perform like the Wave purple either, but I thought I would experiment and see - half the fun of gardening anyway I've concluded that as inexpensive as annuals are for the huge mass of color; I'd rather get the known effect of the hybrid and get predictable results that make my neighbors say "Wow, I had no idea your garden was so colorful from what I can see across the road".

Discover bamboo that will flourish in Massachusetts gardens.
One of the most valuable landscape qualities of bamboo is that its fast growing perennial evergreen foliage creates a wonderful year round privacy screen, and adds a level of sophistication and surprise to the typical Massachusetts garden.

Although no plant is truly deer proof, there are many perennials, shrubs and trees that are considered deer resistant. Shrub Roses are an excellent choice for the gardener who wants plants that will add fragrance, color and splendor to their landscape.

Flowers, Perennials
Perennials are the backbone of the flower garden. Unlike annuals, which need to be replaced each year, perennials go dormant over the winter and emerge again in spring. Because they need to store up energy to return and bloom again, most perennials have shorter blooming seasons than annuals.

Controlling Perennial Weeds
Fortunately for those with less persistence, there are two herbicides on the market that are effective against virtually all perennial weeds. These salts are absorbed through the plant's leaves and then move to the plant's root system, where they block the production of proteins.

Choosing Perennial Rye
Unlike Kentucky bluegrass and tall fescue seedlings which need several winter months to mature before they are able to withstand summer heat, spring planted perennial ryegrass seedlings develop roots quickly enough to survive northern summers.
