Talk about Perennials in our Message Board!

Other Articles/Publications:
Flowers, Perennials
Perennials are the backbone of the flower garden. Unlike annuals, which need to be replaced each year, perennials go dormant over the winter and emerge again in spring. Because they need to store up energy to return and bloom again, most perennials have shorter blooming seasons than annuals.

Controlling Perennial Weeds
Fortunately for those with less persistence, there are two herbicides on the market that are effective against virtually all perennial weeds. These salts are absorbed through the plant's leaves and then move to the plant's root system, where they block the production of proteins.

Choosing Perennial Rye
Unlike Kentucky bluegrass and tall fescue seedlings which need several winter months to mature before they are able to withstand summer heat, spring planted perennial ryegrass seedlings develop roots quickly enough to survive northern summers.

MYKE® for Annuals and Perennials
The product should be placed as close to the roots or the root zone as you can so the roots can be colonized by the fungus in the product. As the roots grow, the mycorrhizae will develop and multiply along with those expanding roots.

Gardening Resources, Cornell University
Perry's Perennial Pages - University of Vermont site includes photos and files of popular herbaceous perennials and a section tailored for home gardeners. Mention of trade names and commercial products is for educational purposes; no discrimination is intended and no endorsement by Cornell Cooperative Extension or Cornell University is implied.
