Texas Citrus - Fungal Diseases and Nematodes
Citrus diseases affecting the entire tree can be classified into two general categories: parasitic and nonparasitic. Plant parasitic nematodes are very small worms that cannot be seen with the naked eye.
Root and Vascular Diseases of Watermelon in South Texas
Although drought conditions are somewhat alleviated around the state, vegetable producers in South Texas are still in a bind for water. Root-knot nematodes can cause galling on roots, but there are no visible root symptoms with the reniform nematode.
Lander
Our melon trialing program emphasizes evaluation of commercial varieties for disease tolerance and resistance and for production attributes. Melon varieties in our spring melon trials are tested in multiple locations throughout South Texas.
Carrots in Texas
Carrot weevil mostly affects the processing carrots since food quality standards do not permit any weevil larvae presence or root damage over 1%. Currently there are no commercial replacements for diazinon for soil insects or alternatives for dichloropropene and oxamyl for nematode control.
Untitled Document
The root-knot nematode occurs primarily in sandy soils. Although nematicides can provide an economical control, a crop rotation with corn or sorghum and a weed-free fallow can reduce numbers of nematodes below damaging thresholds.
