Amending The Lawn's Soil
In addition to the very important amendment of annual organic material, there are some additional amendments which are optional, but may be very helpful in making your turfgrass more healthy.
Problems of Beets
Powdered or granulated limestone takes too long to have effect, so use liquid limestone that is mixed with water and will immediately raise the pH or the level of acidity around the beets.
Composts
In simplest terms, compost improves the soil so that the plants growing in that soil will be healthier and more productive. Whether it is spread in a layer on the surface of the soil or is worked down into the soil by hand or with a digging tool or tiller, it serves primarily as a soil conditioning amendment.
Other Lawn Feeding Issues
Since grass plants prefer to grow in soil that is only mildly acidic, homeowners whose property has very acidic soil spread lime on their lawns to reduce the acidity, or “sweeten” the soil.
