Spray all wood thoroughly on a windless day when the temperature is expected to remain above freezing for 24 hours. Mulch should be applied only 2-3 inches deep around fruit plants but kept away from crowns and trunks.

Trees and shrubs can be pruned now. Mulch should be applied only 2-3 inches deep around ornamental plants and kept away from shrub and tree trunks. Deciduous shade trees and evergreen trees that have had scale problems can be sprayed with horticultural oil after leaves drop.
