Natural Herbicides
There are not as many natural herbicides compared to synthetic herbicides as you would see comparing insecticides. If you know of some additional natural herbicides on the market, let us know.

Controlling Poison Ivy With Herbicides
Although it is desirable to attack poison ivy as soon as you spot it, before it has a chance to spread and become well established, some herbicides for woody plants are most effective in the early summer when it is growing actively and has lots of leaves. Ten days or so later cut the woody stems about an inch above the soil and immediately paint the surface of the cut stem with the herbicide.

Kill With Herbicide
If you choose to use a chemical herbicide to eliminate a major broadleaved weed problem, you are looking for an effective product that is a selective herbicide, like 2,4-D, that will kill all the broadleaved weeds but will not hurt the grass.

Choosing An Herbicide
When you finish your spray job it is wise to use a commercial sprayer cleaner to be sure there is absolutely no residual fungicide when you again use that same sprayer for a different pesticide product.

In the past, herbicides for the lawn fell into two categories - products to kill broadleaved weeds and products to kill grassy weeds. There are now products to kill broadleaved weeds and grassy weeds, and still not hurt the lawn grass.
