Want Color? Consider Planting Nandina Shrubs in Your Tennessee Garden
Consider planting one of the many lovely varieties of nandina in your Tennessee garden. Compact nandina varieties grow 4 to 5 feet while other varieties grow 6 to 8 feet.

Planting Delphinium
Plant delphinium seedlings from the nursery or garden center in late spring, May or June. If possible, loosen the soil 1-foot deep when preparing the bed for planting. There are a number of products at the garden center that will help your newly planted or transplanted plants deal better with the stress inherent in the planting process.

Planting Blackgum
The nursery industry offers the species form of this plant in containers, as this plant is difficult to otherwise transplant. Named cultivars are available that have been selected for fall color and plant form, but none are readily available from retail nurseries.

Nellie R. Stevens Holly - A Versatile Shrub for Your Tennessee Garden.
This broadleaf, evergreen shrub grows from about 15 to 30 feet high and about 10 to 12 feet wide. Nellie R. Stevens Holly will grow best when planted in partial to full sun and can tolerate moderate to dry conditions.

Choosing Christmas Trees
Folks who prefer to use a “live” Christmas tree which will be planted outside after the holiday really have more choices because they are buying their tree from a local nursery or garden center which will have a broader selection of evergreen trees suitable as a Christmas tree.
