Utilizing Ajuga for Ohio shade gardens.
Ajuga is a low-growing, mat-forming evergreen ground cover perennial that has short spikes of blue flowers in spring. Ajuga grows rapidly by producing mats of medium glossy green 3 to 4 inch oval-shaped leaves in tight rosettes.
Ajuga
It develops a fast-growing, tidy mat of tightly-knit rosettes of colorful foliage, punctuated in the spring with stalks of perky flowers. Similar to many fellow members of the mint family, ajuga is sometimes invasive, enthusiastically taking over whole garden beds and sneaking into the lawn.

Choose one or several lovely fragrant shrubs to make your South Carolina garden as attractive to the nose as it is to the eye! Consider planting trees with unique forms in your New York garden so that it will be more exciting during the winter months.
Caring for Ajuga
Ajuga – Making sure your Ajuga is in the right place in your yard - Locate ajuga in either sun or partial shade in well-drained soil. Soil must drain well, however, because ajuga is prone to rots and fungal diseases that are fostered by soggy soil.
Using Ajuga
Types of ajuga with multi-colored leaves are somewhat better used as accents rather than for covering large areas. Like most groundcovers, ajuga makes a good living mulch under shrubs where it discourages weeds and protects soil.
